Meridiam reaches financial close on Aragon Roads in Spain

11.07.2024

On 6 July 2024, Meridiam reached financial close on the Aragon Roads project in Spain, which consists of the upgrading, rehabilitation and maintenance for 25 years of an existing 183 km road located in the province of Teruel in Aragon between the towns of Andorra (Teruel) and Mora de Rubielos. Construction will start at the end of 2024 and should be completed in the first half of 2027, although some sections will be completed earlier.

The rehabilitation and reconstruction of these roads is expected to reduce overall travel time by 20% and increase safety by improving infrastructure standards. It will also contribute to the region’s growth and the expansion and diversification of regional economic activities, especially tourism, agriculture and agribusiness.

To minimise the use of new resources and reduce overall CO2 emissions, the recycling and reuse of approximately 30% of the existing asphalt pavement will be part of the project specifications and requirements.

Meridiam has real and extensive experience in roads, as it is currently building and managing more than 2,500 km of them in Europe, and with this project, more than 400 km in Spain and the United States.
